Turkish International Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu mentioned on Sunday that Ankara is working laborious to increase a U.N.-backed initiative that has enabled Ukraine to export grain from ports blockaded by Russia following its invasion.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative brokered by the United Nations and Turkey final July allowed grain to be exported from three Ukrainian ports. The settlement was prolonged in November and can expire on March 18 except an extension is agreed.

“We’re working laborious for the graceful implementation and additional extension of the Black Sea grain deal,” Cavusoglu mentioned in a speech on the United Nations Convention on Least Developed Nations being held in Doha, Qatar.

Cavusoglu additionally mentioned he mentioned the extension efforts with U.N. Secretary Common Antonio Guterres.

On Wednesday, Russia mentioned it could solely agree to increase the Black Sea grain deal if the pursuits of its personal agricultural producers are taken under consideration.
