Kim Jong Un accused the USA and South Korea of accelerating tensions with the navy drills.

Seoul:

North Korea claims that about 800,000 of its residents volunteered to hitch or reenlist within the nation’s navy to battle towards the USA, North Korea’s state newspaper reported on Saturday.

About 800,000 college students and staff, on Friday alone, throughout the nation expressed a want to enlist or reenlist within the navy to counter the USA, the Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported.

The North’s declare got here after North Korea on Thursday launched its Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in response to ongoin0g U.S-South Korea navy drills.

North Korea fired the ICBM into the ocean between the Korean peninsula and Japan on Thursday, hours earlier than South Korea’s president flew to Tokyo for a summit that mentioned methods to counter the nuclear-armed North.

The North’s ballistic missiles are banned below United Nations Safety Council resolutions and the launch drew condemnation from governments in Seoul, Washington and Tokyo.

South Korean and American forces started 11 days of joint drills, dubbed “Freedom Protect 23,” on Monday, held on a scale not seen since 2017 to counter the North’s rising threats.
